Why is choosing a paint colour so difficult?

There aren’t many of us out there who can say we have always got it right the first time. And that’s because choosing paint colours is hard! There are so many considerations when choosing a colour. Like what direction do my windows face? How much natural light does the room get? What furnishings does it need to work with? Does the flooring I need to coordinate with have a warm or cool undertone? Will it look as good under artificial light? What if it’s too dark? Will it be too washed out?

It’s no wonder we can all get in a tiz about it.

If you are finding yourself stressing over paint colour then first of all take a breath, then remind yourself you’re not alone. Getting it right is not easy so give yourself a break.

Hiring a colour consultant could be the perfect solution

It’s true – it’s going to save you stress, time and money.

Would you rather pay £60 and get your paint colour right the first time or go it alone and risk getting it wrong? And would you rather make a decision within an hour or spend weeks stressing over samples?

A colour consultant (which is me by the way) is going to give you the expert advice you need as well as the confidence and conviction you need to get your project finished. You will also really enjoy the process as we spend time together exploring the options.

How does it work?

Individual rooms

If you’re tackling one room then book me for a one-hour consultation. I will visit you in your home and we will chat about the room. I’ll ask you loads of questions about how you are planning to use the room and what atmosphere or feeling you would like to create. We will analyse any limitations of our colour choices based on orientation, quality of light and items we need to coordinate with.  We will then get the paint charts out and start throwing around ideas. By the end of your session, we will have found your perfect paint colour and I can then advise you on complementary colours for ceilings and woodwork. I’ll then follow up our session with a painting schedule with all the information you need.

Whole homes

First things first I will come out for an initial free-of-charge visit to take a look at your property and we can discuss your plans. I will then follow up with a price for putting together a whole home colour scheme, this is paint colours and wallpapers for every room as well as the ceiling and woodwork colours. I will follow up the meeting with a price for your unique project. If you want to go ahead we will book an in-depth consultation where we will spend time discussing each space. I’ll then spend two weeks creating your palette which will be delivered to you as a digital design with a video commentary. We can revise any colours you are not sure of, and when the final design is agreed I will send you a detailed painting schedule with everything you need.

These services are offered across Southampton and parts of Hampshire and Dorset, so get in touch to let me know where you are.
