FAQs

THE SERVICE

How does your service differ from a traditional interior designer?
My service is all about giving you great design at an affordable price. The flat-fee services means you know what you are paying upfront for your design, rather than hiring a designer who charges a percentage of your overall project costs. Unlike a traditional interior designer I don’t install the design for you. I give you everything you need, including the confidence, to do it yourself. This makes the design service really affordable. I also don’t take any commission from retailers for recommending their products.

How does your service differ from an online design service?
I visit you in your home because it’s impossible to get a real feel for a space just through photos and dimensions. It’s also impossible to get a feel for you as the client without meeting in person. I offer a personal service that cannot be achieved through an online platform.

What budget do I need to be spending?
I will work to whatever budget you have in mind, but as a guide most clients are usually looking to spend from £5000 to £8000 for a typical bedroom, living or dining room. Smaller spaces such as offices or hallways can be achieved for less, and with kitchens and bathrooms the sky’s the limit.

THE DETAIL

Are there any limitations of the room design service?
Yes. The service doesn’t apply to kitchens and bathrooms and I can only source products from retail rather than vintage or second hand. But apart from that we can accommodate most requests for most rooms.

Are there any limitations of the whole home colour palette service?
Yes. The service is to specify paint and wallpaper for internal walls only. It doesn’t include specialist paint effects, murals or wall stickers and it does not include specialist wall coverings like tile or timber cladding. I select colours from the Farrow and Ball, Little Greene, Dulux Heritage and Lick collections only. The painting schedule does not include the estimation of volume of paint required as this is for your trades person to calculate. But it does provide the colours and finishes for every surface in every room including walls, ceilings, radiators and woodwork.

Your services don’t suit my needs, can you offer a more bespoke service?
Yes. Get in touch and let me know what you are looking for.

Do you design kitchens and bathrooms?
Yes. If you are embarking on a kitchen or bathroom re-model, I can assist you in choosing all aspects of your new project including; the units, hardware, surfaces and finishes, as well as flooring, decor and accessories. Contact me to discuss your requirements.

Will you provide samples?
Physical samples are not provided but you can order them yourself by using the links of the shopping list.

What retailers do you recommend?
Unlike traditional or online interior designers, I don’t make any commission for recommending suppliers. This means I can shop anywhere and everywhere to source the perfect item for you. I will discuss your shopping preferences with you at our consultation.

THE PROCESS

How does the process work?
The process for my services are set out on the service guides above, just click on the links to view them.

How will you communicate with me?
I can be contacted via phone, email, Zoom and Whatsapp. I’ll discuss your preferred contact during our consultation and take your lead on this one.

When do I have to pay you?
This is all set out in the terms of engagement I will send you prior to our consultation.

WHAT IF?

What if I don’t like the design?
During the home consultation I will spend time getting to know your style preferences to ensure I have a very good idea of what you like before I start the design. Within each package there is the opportunity to feedback and discuss your design, I will then accommodate the changes you are looking to make, and suggest alternatives for any element of the design. If you are still not happy then further revisions can be offered at an additional charge.

What if we don’t get on once we have met?
Design is very personal and it’s important we feel comfortable working together. If either of us feel we are not a good fit then we can cancel the service.

What if my partner and I can’t agree?
It’s not uncommon for two or more clients to be involved in a project that have opposing tastes. This is another reason to call in an expert. We can discuss such issues at the consultation and come up with a design that you both will love.

I’m not local, can I still use your service?
Yes! Get in touch and let me know where you are.

INSTALLING THE DESIGN

Who shall I get to implement my room design?
I give you everything you need to implement your design at home. But you may need to hire a tradesperson to carry out skilled work. I provide detailed advice on how to hire and manage tradespeople in my how-to guides you will receive at the end of the process.

Can you recommend contractors to me?
Possibly. Depending on where you live, I can make recommendations of people I have worked with on previous projects. However, it would be your responsibility to contact and manage them and I cannot accept any responsibility or liability for their work.

What if I don’t like the items when they arrive or they are lost/damaged in transit?
I make recommendations in good faith that retailers and suppliers provide accurate descriptions, dimensions and images on their website, and that they will provide a quality service and product. However, it is your responsibility to order the items, and make yourself aware of each individual supplier’s returns and refunds policy, just in case it is not what you expect. While I have good experience of working with many retailers and suppliers I cannot accept any responsibility or liability for their goods.
