Five steps to getting your home autumn ready

It’s that time of year again. We were robbed of a good summer, with no decent sunshine since May. And now we have to face autumn and winter? Yep, Autumn is here whether we like it or not, so we may as well prepare ourselves. Time to put away the garden furniture (if you ever got it out) and pack away our flip-flops. But what about our homes? Let’s give them a little attention and get them ready for the fall.

5 steps to getting your home autumn ready

1. CUSHIONS AND THROWS

It’s time to get cosy. Layering textiles on sofas, beds and armchairs will create a warm and welcoming vibe. Choose warm colours such as pinks, rusts and deep reds.

2. RUGS

They are the perfect way to add warmth and texture to a room. Go for a deep pile that’s cosy underfoot or a heavily patterned Persian style.

3. LIGHTING

For cosy evenings you don’t want harsh overhead lighting. For a more relaxing ambience layer lighting with floor lamps, table lamps, uplighters and even fairy lights.

4. STORAGE

There can be a lot of pressure on your hallway at this time of year so it’s time to get organised. Have a clear-out and make space for all those bulky coats, boots, scarves and umbrellas.

5. SCENTS

This transitional time of year can be mentally challenging. So get your wax melters, candles and oil diffusers at the ready. Try uplifting scents like citrus and vanilla. Or go for heavier autumnal scents like sandalwood and oud.
