New Year New Home Goals?
Every year I have always set some home decor goals. I love targets, deadlines and lists. They keep me motivated and focused and normally get some good results? But what about this year? What have I managed to achieve in 2020? Well, aside from the extra ten pounds in body weight and daily drinking problem, I have managed to get a few home projects finished. But let’s face it, this year was more about survival than achievements.
I survived eighty four days straight without childcare whilst WFH in a building site. So who cares if the kitchen renovation has overrun by six months or that I didn’t get the front door painted or that I still haven’t ordered a new dining table. I’m not going to give myself a hard time about that.
My still very unfinished kitchen 2020
But what about this year? Twenty twenty-one. It’s the first of January and until I sat down to write this I still wasn’t sure how I felt about the New Year. Should I be feeling optimistic, hopeful and full of intention? Or does that make me a selfish twat? Should I just be grateful for what I have, hunker down, and mentally prepare for the impending doom?
In the grand scheme of things of course it doesn’t really matter that my splash-back is still to be fitted and the skirting boards still haven’t been painted. But our worlds have got pretty small these days. And if it matters to you then it matters. So if painting my front door makes me feel better about life then I should do it, and not feel guilty about it.
So yes maybe I will set myself some home goals for 2021.
MY HOME GOALS FOR 2021
- Keep all my house plants alive
- Finish the kitchen
- Plant beds on the patio
- Find the perfect dining table
- Fix the leaking shower and bath tap
- Paint the front door
Even with a pandemic that feels pretty achievable right?
HOW TO SET YOUR OWN
But what about you? What are your home goals? If you’re not sure where to start, or you have a tiny budget, then think about what will make the most impact. Make a list of all the things that you hate or that annoy you. Maybe you despise the colour of the bathroom or maybe the fact that your wardrobe door doesn’t shut properly pisses you off every day. These are the places to start. Just making sure things work properly can transform how you feel about your home and can dissipate negative energy that builds up every day. Goals don’t have to be ambitious to transform your home.
Let me know what projects you are going to focus on to make your own little world a better place. And don’t forget I can help you, if there is one thing this year has taught me it’s that Zoom is an excellent way to nosy around people’s homes. I offer my interior design services in person across Hampshire or online from wherever you like so why not get in touch.
